Jaipur

Dressed in pink, Jaipur the royal city of Rajasthan, is the perfect blend of heritage, palaces, culture and art. Steeped in history and culture, here the past comes alive in magnificent forts, majestic palaces and beautiful intricately carved havelis.

Built in the early 18th century the city was founded by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, and is often referred to as an early example of a planned city in India.  Well known as the pink city, legend has it, that the city was painted in honor of the Prince of Wales who visited in 1876.  However most think that it was an effect used to mimic red sandstone. Colloquially known as part of the ‘golden triangle’, along with New Delhi and Agra, Jaipur provides an excellent base to explore Rajasthan.

The city’s colorful, chaotic streets ebb and flow with a heady brew of old and new. Speeding buses dodge dawdling camels, whilst leisurely cycle-rickshaws frustrate swarms of eager mopeds. In the midst of this mayhem, the splendors of Jaipur’s majestic past are an oasis of relative calm evoking a different pace and another world.
